Transformers exist on many of our buildings and telephone poles to reduce the voltage of the electricity coming through the power lines. Electricity is sent at from a power station to your house via power lines, but to make the full journey it needs to be very strong. When it gets to the house the voltages needs to be seriously reduced so as not to blow up the house. Transformers step down the power so that we can use it in our day to day lives.
“A transformer for developing or converting currents of high potential, comprising a primary and secondary coil, one terminal of the secondary being electrically connected with the primary, and with earth when the transformer is in use, as set forth.”
